Eczema is a skin condition that refers to inflammation of the skin and is characterized by irritation, redness, dry and scaly skin.  The most common places that eczema appears are in the folds of the skin, on elbows, knees, or on the face.  Eczema is considered hereditary but can be aggravated by irritants such as smog, chemicals, detergents, and solvents.  Stress and heat also aggravate symptoms of eczema.  Some home remedies that may help to relieve the symptoms include:

  • Bathing in oatmeal.  Add oats to a bath to relieve skin

  • Make a chamomile compress.  Boil 2 cups of water.  Pour over 2 tsp of chamomile flowers.  Allow to soak for 20 minutes.  Apply compress soaked in liquid.

  • Apply a paste of nutmeg on the affected areas.

  • Drink tomato juice daily.  This may help cure the symptoms within a couple of days.

  • Apply cotton soaked in cold milk on the affected area.  This will help relieve the itch.
