The development of the sexual organs continues. In females the ovaries are settling in the pelvis while males are developing the prostate gland. Along with the sexual organs, there is another vital organ which has just developed and has started to function at this time: the thyroid gland.

The baby’s head is growing more slowly now and the neck keeps growing so his head will no longer rest so much on its torso.  His hands are much more active and he can open and close them as well. This week he might even begin to suck his thumb.

The baby’s skin is still transparent but there is a coating of very fine hair growing over it called lanugo which will keep growing in the following weeks. Meanwhile, bones which were almost like cartilage are becoming stronger every day.
