If you haven’t heard it yet, this week you will be able to clearly hear your baby’s heartbeat. From this week on the placenta will be the one in charge of providing the baby with all the nutrients she needs to grow. What’s more, at this time your baby will start to practice one of the most important reflex movements in order to survive which is breathing. Although she now receives the oxygen she needs through the umbilical cord, she will practice the inhaling and exhaling movements for when she is born.
Besides her features being more similar to those of a baby because her ears as well as her eyes are falling into place, the neck is also starting to grow, making her look more human. In the same way, her little hands, which already have nails and finger prints, are becoming more active and functional and they might soon be grabbing at the umbilical cord.
